Not explicitly, but looking at the release notes for 2.8 I don't see any API changes after 2.7.2 so chances are good it's still compatible. https://github.com/drewnoakes/metadata-extractor/releases I think updating to metadata-extractor 2.8 is a good idea, we can fix any issues in josm & gpsprune if they arise.
