Package: apt-listdifferences Version: 1.20141011 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, There are number of questions with the tool which a user may not know and doesn't know what to do when he makes a wrong choice.
For instance, I installed the package thinking it will give me just the diff. and not download the source packages in full. Also it didn't tell that it would download the source packages at /etc/apt/ where I don't have the space to download the source archive of all the binary packages I have. Lastly, the manpage doesn't tell what to do in case you are stuck in the initialization phase. It took me some time and error to find that the initialization flag lives in /var/cache/debconf/config.dat Name: apt-listdifferences/initialize Template: apt-listdifferences/initialize Value: false Owners: apt-listdifferences Flags: seen The moment I changed it to true my issues were no longer there. There is need to improve both the long description as well as the manpage for the user to make an informed choice. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental'), (1, 'unstable'), (1, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages apt-listdifferences depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.56 ii debian-keyring 2015.05.17 ii devscripts 2.15.3 ii python3 3.4.3-1 ii python3-apt 0.9.3.11 ii python3-debian 0.1.27 Versions of packages apt-listdifferences recommends: ii diffstat 1.58-1 apt-listdifferences suggests no packages. -- debconf information: apt-listdifferences/purge: false * apt-listdifferences/initialize: false -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal शिरीष अग्रवाल My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com EB80 462B 08E1 A0DE A73A 2C2F 9F3D C7A4 E1C4 D2D8 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
