spatialite-bin no longer segfaults because it doesn't use the spatialite_init() method anymore. gdal, qgis & pyspatialite still use the deprecated spatialite_init() method though. gdal 1.11.2 in experimental will stop using it in favor of spatialite_init_ex() for spatialite >= 4.1.2, so we also need to transition to spatialite 4.2.x.
