OK... Currently my workarounds are either holding ncurses-base at
5.9+20140118-1, or copy an old version of xterm's terminfo to
~/.terminfo/x/xterm.

Cherry-picking the upstream patch and rebuilding tmux also works. Also,
newerncurses starts to provide terminfo for tmux, which also seems to work,
if I set default-terminal to 'tmux'. (not yet in Debian)

However, these workarounds don't seems to be quite convenient. Could you
elaborate a little bit more on the workaround you've suggested?
