I'd like to update ceph in jessie to the latest upstream bugfix release.
The version of ceph in jessie is a long term support (LTS) release which
will receive updates at least until January 2016. Updates will be bugfix
only. New features go into new release which are developed in parallel.

IMO this is in line with other packages like the Linux kernel and
postgresql which have a similar policy and are also already updated to
new upstream bugfix releases in stable.
I have uploaded the version I would like to have in stable to unstable,
but did not upload to jessie-proposed-updates yet. But this will only be
a rebuild in a clean jessie chroot. I attached the debdiff to the
current version in stable.
I'm a bit unsure about the correct versioning of the stable update.
Certainly the version should be lower than the one in unstable
(0.80.9-2). The prefered version from my POV would be 0.80.9-2~deb8u1,
but I have seen that other packages use +deb8u1 which would mean it should
be 0.80.9-1+deb8u1 to be lower than unstable. I don't care much about
this and will just use what the release team prefers.
If you think that the upstream changes are inappropriate for a stable update,
then I'd like to at least get the NEWS.Debian note about rbdmap and systemd
into stable.

Thanks Gaudenz, for working on this.
I'm not sure I have much weight in the decision here, but I'd still
would like to express that, like you, I'd very much would like to see
this happen, as Ceph is a critical piece in an OpenStack cloud, and the
bugfixes are important. Having Ceph bugs fixed is definitively a
competing advantage for an OpenStack distribution.
