unfortunately i don't have that knowledge too... I tweaked the job to output the apt invocation, and as you can see here https://jenkins.debian.net/view/reproducible/job/reproducible_setup_schroot_unstable_debbindiff/79/console the call is a really simple sudo chroot /chroots/schroot-install-reproducible-unstable-debbindiff-QS40 apt-get install -y debbindiff locales-all I'm not able to reproduce the issue in my notebook, but while trying to resurrect the broken environment i was able to reproduce it in jenkins. a relevant difference i noted is that the chroot in jenkins does not have anything mounted, while at least here i have /dev, /proc, /dev/pts, etc, but i didn't find the time to check for that.
