Hm. Now that I read that again I remember some other problems with the
clipboard. There are four Debian bug reports of Lesstif clipboard
bugs: #217121, #271022, #305308 and #314440. The first includes a
description about how I understand the problem and a link to the
Lesstif bug tracker, where this bug is closed as fixed.

I don't know how I could miss that.

Let us know under which circumstances (if any) the bug reappears.

No, it was more for bookkeeping processes. The reason for the
inadvertant fix is probably a library mixup of some kind, so it might
give an important hint to solve the bug later.
