Package: bc Version: 1.06.95-9 Followup-For: Bug #761253 > dc should not have priority "standard"; it should not be automatically > installed on all Debian systems. Anyone who wants a command-line RPN > calculator can easily install it, and packages using it will have a > dependency on it.
Actually... I recommend the opposite, and I feel that bc should be upgraded to "important." "Important" is defined in the Debian Policy as "those [programs] which one would expect to find on any Unix-like system." bc is defined by POSIX[1] and is a common method of performing floating-point math from the shell. Furthermore, bc is small and only depends on packages which are already in either "important" or "required." ---Alex [1] http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007904975/utilities/bc.html -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (900, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages bc depends on: ii libc6 2.19-15 ii libreadline6 6.3-8+b3 ii libtinfo5 5.9+20140913-1+b1 bc recommends no packages. bc suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
