Actually... I recommend the opposite, and I feel that bc should be upgraded to
"important."

"Important" is defined in the Debian Policy as "those [programs]
which one would expect to find on any Unix-like system." bc is defined by
POSIX[1] and is a common method of performing floating-point math from the
shell. Furthermore, bc is small and only depends on packages which are already
in either "important" or "required."
