https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=677811 looks related, although this bug is marked as fixed. You could try disabling the /etc/schroot/setup.d/15binfmt hook script, to narrow down the problem. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
