That's not my understanding after re-reading https://metacpan.org/pod/Getopt::Long#Command-Line-Options-an-Introduction If the description matches the code, for an option --something / -s any of -s 1, -s1, --something 1, --something=1 should work, but not -s=1 or --something1.
