Hi Marga,

Thanks for responding so quickly.

Trying to reproduce the bug: In the Cinnamon settings, there is a dialog where
you can set several things concerning fonts. E.g. antialiasing, hinting - and
also the text scaling factor. See the following picture:
http://www.binarytides.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/linux-mint-font-settings.png
When I then click on the + or - to increase/decrease the font scaling factor,
wait every time for 2-3 seconds so that the font size really changes (there
seems to be a small delay), my cinnamon freezes after clicking around for 10-20
seconds. Sometimes, it also "helped" to also move some windows around, resize
windows, change desktops or open the cinnamon menu.

BTW: The "workaround" (killing cinnamon) sometimes helps, but sometimes not so
that I had to restart X completely. So this bug already caused data loss to me
- this is why I thought the severity 'grave' was correct - although not
everybody seems to be hurt by this bug.

Hope this helps,
Micha

Hola Micha vor dem Berge!

I use cinnamon 2.2 daily, on three different computers, with weird monitor
setups (for example, right now I'm on a laptop with DisplayPort -> VGA adapter,
using the external monitor) and I don't experience this bug.

I understand that the bug can be annoying for those that do experience it, and
I'm sorry for that, but that doesn't mean the program is unusable for everyone.
There's even a workaround (ugly, yes, but at least it exists). So, no, this
doesn't warrant a "grave" severity (particularly not at this point in the
release, when grave means it will get removed from Jessie).

I read that bug and it looks like a big mess of probably different issues, as
people are saying that they experience different symptoms under different
circumstances.

Can you elaborate on this? I'd be interested in being able to easily reproduce
the bug myself.
