I've not seen this myself. If it is noffle causing this (and not an 
over-enthusiastic fsck - had any disk troubles lately?), then the news server 
name is getting corrupted in memory somehow.

It's been a while since I tried running noffle under valgrind. I'll try again 
and see if anything interesting transpires.
