OTOH, about your considerations on the "the directory where your web2py application dir is located" it is not /usr/share/web2py/ . It is the place where you run web2py, with the package you can run it where you want. Usually at $HOME. The script doesn't do it in a Debian way and imposes how the ssl certificates are created or install some packages (like postfix) to the user. The debian package doesn't do these impositions.
