Package: src:linux Version: 3.16.7-ckt2-1 Followup-For: Bug #774115 Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? Using an USB 3.0 external Seage Expanion Desktop Drive, size 4TB * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Using the drive as backup drive with storebackup * What was the outcome of this action? Drive reads with about a maximum of 145MB/s but -writes- only with slow 10MB/s. Both tested on USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports * What outcome did you expect instead? Write speed much higher than 10MB/s I'm using a Seagate Expansion Desk drive, USB 3.0 with 4 TB of storage as backup drive connected to a USB 3.0 port from an Transcend PCIe card put into my HP ProLiant ML110 G6 server. I tested this using Debian/testing and Kernel Linux g6 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt2-1 (2014-12-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux. Symptoms as following: The drive reads on a USB 3.0 port with about 145MB/s (good) but writes only with a maximum of 10MB/s. The slow write speed also applies to an USB 2.0 port I tested with. In addition, when I use the drive through an USB 3.0 connection, I get kernel error messages as enclosed below. This happend when I tested the drive with bonnie++. Following are the outputs I can give you: >From /var/log/syslog: Jan 11 13:20:10 g6 kernel: [120341.476911] usb 2-1.1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 7 using xhci_hcd Jan 11 13:20:10 g6 kernel: [120341.491791] xhci_hcd 0000:10:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep f fff8803f0d93280 Jan 11 13:20:10 g6 kernel: [120341.491796] xhci_hcd 0000:10:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep f fff8803f0d932c8 Jan 11 13:24:47 g6 kernel: [120618.565778] usb 2-1.1: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 7 using xhci_hcd Jan 11 13:24:47 g6 kernel: [120618.584711] xhci_hcd 0000:10:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep f fff8803f0d93280 Jan 11 13:24:47 g6 kernel: [120618.584719] xhci_hcd 0000:10:00.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep f fff8803f0d932c8 bonnie++ -u adrian -r 16000 -d /backup/tmp, you can see here the slow write speed of about 8MB/s: Delete files in sequential order...done.
