Yeah, it will not automatically update the the dependencies of the
non-existent gnome metapackage. So I have more hassle.

Linux has recently reconfirmed my impression that 2.6 is not a stable
kernel series by refusing to stabilize interfaces. IIRC, there was even
talk about not committing to a stable ABI towards the userland.

But this is turning into a debate of the politics and policies of the
Gnome project. Entirely off-topic to this bug. If you won't do anything
about udev's Conflicts, please close this as "wontfix".
