Nope - installed lightdm to test. Both were installed at the same time for about 30 minutes, then purged lightdm.
Installed lightdm with synaptic, synaptic launched dpkg-reconfigure and I set default DM to lightdm at that point. When I purged lightdm I ran dpkg-reconfigure manually to make sure things were purged and slim was back to default. Appears to me in both DM that perhaps X is not starting or only partially starting; as mentioned I get black screen with backlight and can't switch to another console, but if I start in rescue mode and then hit Ctrl-D X comes up every time. Strange.
