I have a CanoScan Lide 25 and was affected by the same issue. I
recompiled sane-backends with the following upstream patch applied:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/sane/sane-backends.git/commit/?id=014b45d920f1fb630e1a31bb01f1da02ea2a6a87
and that fixed the issue for me.

I think that this fix should go into Jessie.
