quick followup: 1.8.11p2-1.1 has been uploaded to unstable, including (only) the fix found in the above-mentioned debdiff. If unblocking 1.8.11p2-1.1 is a no-go, the sponsor of the aforementioned upload said he would be available for a 1.8.10p3-1.1 upload (that's the debdiff I posted here) to t-p-u.
