I just received a second confirmation from the mate-themes upstream maintainer. 
The 1.9.2 release of mate-themes (gtk3.14 branch) is highly recommended to be 
preferred to the 1.9.1 version in Debian.

Thanks for taking your time on this one. I know, the package is very big and I 
must admit that I'd love to understand 25% of those theming engine details... 
(which I unfortunately don't...).
