For anyone interested, to save the trouble of clicking the link to lists.debian.org in the original report, here is the full command which fails. Before executing, put a bootable diskette in the drive. sudo qemu-system-i386 -fda /dev/fd0 -vga std -boot a
If everything works as it should, the window for the qemu virtual system should resemble a bare PC booting from the boot diskette. Here the boot failed in three independent machines. Regards, ...
