Please try as user:
$ mkdir $HOME/.pulse
$ echo "autospawn=no" >> $HOME/.pulse/client.conf
This prevents pulseaudio to restart when it's down.
To shutdown pulse:
$ pulseaudio -k
Please test sound now.
To restart pulse:
$ pulseaudio -D
