So the issue is that src/peigs/commm overwrites the FFLAGS in its Makefile and/or the peigs submodule sets up its own flags, so this file is not being compiled with debugging information. In any case, I could reproduce this on an amd64 porterbox (barriere.debian.org), so I will have a look at compiling there with debugging information and poke at what the issue is.
