Equally having apparmor running and then install dovecot results in the same problem. Dovecot runs a number of processes, only some of which are covered by profiles. Namely the main process also tries to fork/exec anvil and log processes. These are trapped by apparmor and the the entire dovecot install now becomes completely unsuable.
