I've just given tiled rendering a try (by enabling it in the settings:
"use tiling").

It really seems to reduce the memory footprint greatly!   :-)
Thanks to you and to the upstream developer(s): please forward my
gratitude to them.

The only thing which is not clear to me is that I seem to be unable to
zoom beyond 1000 %. Is this intentional? I could not find any
explanation about this in the man page...
Please let me know whether I am misunderstanding anything.
