Out of curiosity, what does "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" give you that
"fr_FR.UTF-8" does not? (e.g., what applications behave different,
etc.)
Because:
% sudo locale-gen | grep fr
fr_FR.UTF-8... done
[EMAIL PROTECTED] done
% env LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 locale charmap currency_symbol
UTF-8
€
% env [EMAIL PROTECTED] locale charmap currency_symbol
UTF-8
