Hello Christopher, thank you for your report and thank you, Daniel for your help on troubleshooting this. So far, I haven't experienced this so we should look further into this. I am setting CC to my co-mainter who is usually very skilled at finding the root cause of such problems.

Basically, what this does it to activate scim input for GTK-based programs. Thus, it is not surprising you no longer experience the crash if you comment that line out. Scim would not longer be running. Tz-Huang, are we going to have a new upstream release of scim anytime soon? If so, the window for Jessie is open only until about this weekend under the best of circumstances.
