But you are aware of the bugs it still has (wrt. cross-compilation,
#297726 and picking up the installed vs the uninstalled library,
#291641)?

Yep, one for the C++ case, one for all others.

By the way, why don't you submit the patches regarding the BSD changes
and the version_type one upstream (ideally re-diffed against both
branch-1-5 and HEAD)?  I'd take them.  :)

It would make your patch file quite a bit smaller.
