Dear Maintainer,
*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where

* What led up to the situation?
Unknown, but tens of gigabytes of files accumulated in
/var/cache/apt/archives
apt-cache autoclean would abort on dangling symlinks, leaving obsolete
.deb
files in the cache.
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
I repeatedly ran cleanlinks and then apt-cache autoclean to remove
dangling symlinks and obsolete .deb files from the cache.
* What was the outcome of this action?
* What outcome did you expect instead?
apt-cache autoclean (and its aptitude equivalent) should remove dangling
symlinks rather than aborting when it encounters them.
How did you even get symlinks in there?
I have no idea.
Arthur.
