Package: procps Version: 1:3.3.9-7 Severity: minor Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation? Looking at the output of "top" * What was the outcome of this action? For example, ... %Cpu(s): 0.2 us, 0.2 sy, 0.0 ni, 99.3 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.0 si, 0.0 st KiB Mem: 157844 total, 146904 used, 10940 free, 10720 buffers KiB Swap: 116732 total, 4 used, 116728 free. 92540 cached Mem ... * What outcome did you expect instead? Correct headings on the left side The table headings for cpu, memory and swap should be logical and be mathematically correct. 1) Heading "KiB Mem". Illogical. It is like writing "m length [:=] <number>" but "length is equal to <number> <unit>", not "<unit> length = <number>", which is obvious if it is said aloud. The correct way is to write "<quantity> = <number> <unit>" or "<quantity>/<unit> = <number>". So in tables the heading is "<quantity>/<unit>" and the <number> is below or to the right of the heading. 2) The same is for the swap line, "Swap/KiB", not "KiB Swap"; is "KiB Swap" somehow a different kind of swap than "MiB Spap"? (Speak aloud.) 3) Percent (%) is a quotient of quantities with the same unit(s). So "%Cpu(s)" becomes "(Cpu/s)/%", if it is necessary to indicate the quantity "cpu" is measured, otherwise just "Cpu/%".. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers testing-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-updates'), (500, 'testing-proposed-updates'), (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i586) Kernel: Linux 3.2.60-rt87-2 Locale: LANG=is_IS, LC_CTYPE=is_IS (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages procps depends on: ii initscripts 2.88dsf-53.4 ii libc6 2.19-11 ii libncurses5 5.9+20140913-1 ii libncursesw5 5.9+20140913-1 ii libprocps3 1:3.3.9-7 ii libtinfo5 5.9+20140913-1 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13 Versions of packages procps recommends: ii psmisc 22.21-2 procps suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/sysctl.conf changed [not included] -- no debconf information -- Bjarni I.
