Though I'm not sure it's a regression, it's been a long time that I have been annoyed by the fact that the index gets clogged with multiple trees (the current month, the former month, the next month each with 30 days) and thus making it difficult to navigate in other pages there... I was not even aware that collapsing the higher level entry worked as you explained. So I submitted your request upstream so that we have this as a proper feature in the future.
