Eudev has been started by a group of Gentoo developers in order to workaround increasing dependency of many core packages to systemd constellation, in particular udev (for which there existed no satisfying alternative). Eudev will be maintained with the aim to be compatible with most of the existing init systems (and not only systemd). I am new to package-maintenance, and if anybody is interested I search co-maintainers. I'm also new to udev/systemd development, so I hope it will basically be only packaging work.
