following #765728 and some researches done, I'm intending (as LightDM maintainer) to switch from X-LightDM-DesktopName to DesktopNames to set XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP. Since i3-wm seems to be the only user in Debian [1] I don't really intend to make a large transition for this, and simply upload a new version once you're ready. I've also asked upstream about this [2]. Can you keep me posted on this?
