Package: xboard Version: 4.8~git20140119-1 Severity: normal While looking at how xboard handled the DEC license issue for shogivar, which uses code from XBoard, I noticed the following problem:
The copyright-format spec says "The last paragraph that matches a particular file applies to it.", but the XBoard copyright file first declares all files GPL-3+, and then declares all files as exception using the DEC license, so strictly speaking that renders the initial GPL3+ stance dead code. Thorsten Alteholz wrote about shogivar: > parts of those files are licensed under the DEC license and cannot > be relicensed just by declaring that the whole file is now > GPLv3. The old license is still valid but you don't have to know > what parts are coverd by it. Those who want to use the parts under > the permissive license have to figure this out.
