the omission to clean partial files from /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ affects the installation of security updates. After performing an 'apt-get clean', the administrator thinks that cached files have been removed, deleting old, incorrect state from apt and resulting in 'apt update' trying to retrieve all information again. Because the cache in /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ is not cleaned by 'apt-get clean', this does not work. Please consider adding /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ to the directories to be cleaned by 'apt-get clean' Thanks, Erik -- Dipl.-Inform.
