I feel your pain and building ESX from a seprate source package should be possible. It's just that I don't have the time and energy to support this. I'm lagging on literally dozens of open issues and so I don't want to add any proprietary stuff to that set. As I said: if anybody wants to pick it up, you're very welcome and I'm happy to put this under pkg-libvirt and help out here and there.
