Strangely enough rebuilding the Wheezy package seems to correct the issue. Rebuilt using the following steps:
apt-get source gnu-smalltalk-browser apt-get build-dep gnu-smalltalk-browser cd gnu-smalltalk-3.2.4/ debuild -us -uc
