This is a default KDE 4.11 environment. I was using the same setup for ages. It might have been recent 4.8 -> 4.11 update which changed something? > Is that problem reproducible after a reboot or after you've re-logged in? I have tried to stop and restart both network-manager and the applet with the same result.
