Supporting protobuf 2.6.0 in osmosis turned out to be easier than expected, running protoc and storing the generated source as a patch. I've updated the osmosis package to include this patch and some fixes from the upstream git repo. The fixed package is available on mentors, and currently waiting for sponsorship (#763101).
