I have cairo-dock set to start with my xfce4 session (with no xfce4 panels). It will quite often crash noiselessly after a few minutes running; the cairo-dock process is still running, and, occasionally, I can get a sub-dock to appear if I position the mouse just right, but the main dock has disappeared. I can get it running again by killing the cairo-dock process and restarting it with the system menu (right-click on the desktop), and then it usually stays up and running. There's no indication of a problem in any of the logs, nor in ~/.xsession-errors. Note that I don't have the "cairo-dock" package installed because that seems to require systemd these days, and I'm one of the reactionaries. The problem has been in evidence for several months anyway (i.e. before systemd reared its ugly head).
