In fact, there is another explanation: the dde.debian.net service is
unmaintained, not apt-file. I've sent an email to debian-devel enquiring
if there's interest to take over this service.

Screen-scraping HTML seems also prone to break during the lifetime of a
stable release, so I'm not sure that would be an improvement. If that
service would get a machine-parsable interface, that might be a good
option.
