As ppc64el is now part of Debian, I'd be willing to help fixing this bug, including sponsoring an upload or uploading an NMU. Do you have a package at hand, or would an NMU be more appropriate? If there is no newer package, and no reason against an NMU, I'll upload a fix probably end of the week.
