Yes, I can confirm that I'm seeing the same behavior when connecting the external monitor. This is definitely a bug. The program that is responsible for showing the desktop icons is nemo (you can check this by killing nemo when the icons are present and they will go away), so I'm reassigning the bug to nemo. I found this report (that includes duplicates): https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/3276 Which points to this commit: https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/commit/05dfedb0bc6f8d308f0856577ed768fe1b8282c4 This commit hasn't been released yet, but seems a likely fix.
