Package: sysvinit Version: 2.88dsf-41+deb7u1 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer,
please consider providing a backported version of sysvinit which contains a "sysvinit-core" package. The rationale for this is as follows: When mixing stable (wheezy) and testing (jessie) on a system, "apt-get dist-upgrade" tries to pull in the new "init" package as it is Essential in testing, hence the testing packages could depend on it. However, there is no way for the sysvinit in stable to satisfy this dependency, as there's no sysvinit-core package. I could of course upgrade sysvinit to testing, but I'd rather not do that with such a core package. Hence it would be useful if the stable sysvinit could satisfy the dependency of the Essential "init" package. I imagine a dummy package, but a Provides may work just as well.
