We will freeze on 5 Nov. Last freeze was 10 months long and our current situation should hopefully allow for a shorter freeze this time (which I'd like to see to believe it, so lets just assume it'll take the same time this time around as well). Saying "It will take years" is anyway clearly wrong if we just manage to get the new version into (first unstable and then) testing before the freeze. Your help is welcome. > > I tried Attila's patch and it works well. For all the current > users of wheezy and future users of jessie, could it be possible > to apply the patch? This is a quite big administrative process and you'll need to read up on it alot to have a chance of success. Lets make a long story short by just saying you'll likely not get an acknowledgement on uploading something to stable which hasn't even been tested in unstable yet. > > Having lived thru this last week, I know what I'm talking about. ... unfortunately your experience seems to be lacking in the areas about how debian as a project operates and you don't know what you're talking about when you're wishing for updates to happen in stable first. > > I hope my arguments help change this patching decision. Unfortunately in Debian it is needed that someone is willing to do the work to get something done. So no, nothing has really changed here. If you really like the situation to improve I'd suggest you help out with the work or work out a situation where you can fund work on this so that it's not limited to the spare time I have to work on this. Please also realize that I'm not able to spend alot of time mentoring people because that time will have to come out of the time I can spend on actually improving the util-linux (and other) package(s) in Debian. You'll have to first prove to me that my investment in mentoring will pay back and we can slowly ramp up the time I spend on mentoring based on how much you can put into this. > > Thanks in advance for everyone, > > -jose Regards, Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
