Upgraded to Evolution 3.12.2 using 'apt-get upgrade' on debian jessie,
problem still exists. Using following following script to start
evolution as a workaround:

claims to be offline - additional information

The workaround in upstream bug 708175 which involves setting http_proxy
environment variable and starting Evolution from the command line
resolves this problem (in an inconvenient way). Running in Xfce session,
but I observed the original problem in both Gnome and Gnome Classic
sessions also.

On Jessie box, did following on command line, and evolution connected to
Exchange server. The proxy url is a bogus one (from bug report 708175
linked above). Don't know the significance of the warning messages, but
thought you might like to see them.
