Exactly, this only reinforces my idea that it is not about GPU. @Martin, I've looked to your strace file. The loop that you see is normal - it seems to be a Qt event loop in the main thread (I have a very similar output). Could you try: 'strace -f stellarium 2> trace' instead? Then I could compare it to my trace.
