There are lots of packages with different versions across architectures due to binNMUs. I'm not going to schedule binNMUs that are not necessary just because dpkg can't cope with those. I could binNMU openldap on i386 if really necessary to avoid the pain to our users, but that's about it. I have filed #758616 but I'm told that's a known and long standing issue with multiarch.
