While I do agree that this is a good reason not to rename the .pc file to plain "lua" (which is the scope of #694671), I do not agree that making Debian's lua compatible with FreeBSDs is unfixable. Can you explain what would break, if a symbolic link lua-5.1.pc targeting lua5.1.pc was added to /usr/share/<triplet>/pkgconfig? This symlink would make FreeBSD and Debian compatible.
