For any fellow sysadmins googling for this issue: I've found a fix. The problem was in the IMPI support of these network cards. Download the Broadcom diagnostic tool (see http://www.broadcom.nl/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_server.php), try to find something off which you can boot into DOS (that turned out to be a challenge), and run b57udiag -c 0 -ipmi 0 and b57udiag -c 1 -ipmi 0 to turn off IMPI on both cards, and it's fixed! Note that turning off IPMI in the BMC is not enough, it has to be turned off in the network card itself.

So, this bug can be closed I think, as it's not a problem in the kernel/driver.

Kind regards,

Michel.
