I would also like to see this option and see it become the default.

I think that with this option on, the normal dpkg messages should be
output when a maintainer script outputs a message but the normal dpkg
output should be injected before the maintainer script output, to make
it clear which maintainer script the output came from.

If it doesn't become the default, and if it isn't already the case, I
think the normal dpkg output should not contain "Setting up ..." for
packages with no maintainer scripts.
